About Bartram Timber

Supplying quality timber products in the UK since 1998 From joists, rafters and trusses to cladding, decking and timber frame homes, you can be assured that all our timber is responsibly sourced, so it’s even easier for customers to make a positive choice. A few of our products ... Easi-Joist® Trussed Rafters Specialist Machining MDF Mouldings Sheet Materials Hardwoods Thermowood Cedar Siberian Larch BG Patterns Sawn & Treated Woods Decking Flooring Softwoods Doors Door Apertures Metsä Wood Thermowood Produced by heat treating Finnish grown European Redwood (Red Pine) to temperatures in excess of 200 degrees Centigrade. During the heat treatment, chemical and structural changes occur within the timber which alter and improve some of its basic characteristics. The resulting product is an altogether more durable and stable timber, an ideal material for use in exposed areas such as external wall claddings. You can find pricing for supply and installation of the ThermoWood cladding on each of our building system pages. Cedar Western Red Cedar is an ideal material for use as exterior cladding and is available with CSA certification. Completely in-keeping with the current vogue for natural materials it can enhance the exterior of any building with a beautiful aesthetic quality, while simultaneously offering significant technical benefits. Western Red Cedar is naturally resistant to decay and insect attack. It simply seasons over time if left untreated to an attractive silver grey appearance. Cedar offers superior acoustic qualities too, helping to reduce noise or confine it to specific areas. It is also an excellent material for thermal insulation - in summer keeping the building cool and in winter preventing the heat from escaping. FRE Treatment Despite being classed as a combustible construction material, timber can perform exceptionally well compared with other materials. It can maintain its strength and integrity in a well designed structure. Large dimension timbers will develop a surface layer of char which will insulate the timber within and retard fire development. The surface of timber will readily ignite and spread along it’s surface. With careful treatment this ‘surface spread of flame’ can be slowed through use of modern pressure treated fire retardants. Smoke propagation can also be reduced, which is often even more important in safety critical applications such as public buildings and escape passages. Trussed Rafters Trussed rafters are individually designed components, manufactured from kiln-dried, strength-graded timber. Members are joined with steel nailplate fasteners engineered to provide a structural frame to support the roof fabric, ceilings and/or floors together with other features, such as dormer windows and attic roofs. Combined with other ancillary mechanisms, they are used to construct trussed rafter roofs on a wide range of building types. In today’s competitive market, trussed rafters stand alone as a sophisticated and highly engineered timber product, with complex design and superior creation reinforced by high production standards. Compared with other methods of roof construction, trussed rafters represent the most cost-effective and flexible design option available. Benefits of Trussed Rafters A fully engineered solution for a wide range of roof structures Greater energy efficiency of building materials using up to 40% less than traditional construction methods Thermal efficiency and higher insulation values than some materials, eg. aluminium, steel and concrete Speed of construction allows just-in-time delivery to site Space saving, with no storage area required on site Widespread usage of prefabricated components reducing labour costs Timber's unique environmental edge as the only truly renewable building resource available today Low technology manufacturing process with reduced levels of emissions and pollution Minimal environmental impact from installation
